"There's nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse."
Horses In Education is located in Indiana, where the natural habitat of the surrounding area offers a unique opportunity for students to interact with horses while appreciating the country atmosphere around them. Our program offers Therapeutic Riding and Equine Assisted Learning for anyone with special needs and their families.
Equine Assisted Activities (EAA) are effective in improving cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being for individuals who suffer socially or with mental and physical disabilities. Horses in Education is designed to offer equine learning experiences that change and shape your student’s future. Our program was established in an attempt to bridge the gap between conventional and medicinal therapy and wellness of mind, body and spirit through equine interaction. Horses In Education offers equine-assisted programs that promote respect, routine, friendship and discipline.
Horses in Education has been a blessing for our daughter. She looks forward to every Tuesday and always shouts “Libby is waiting for me!” Her first lesson she was so afraid of getting on the horse and just wanted to go home. Molly got her on the horse and we haven’t looked back since. We now have a picture of her and her horse on the refrigerator and she always says hello, “see you on Tuesday” when passing. Her confidence has gone up and her attention during the lesson is amazing. Even her dad mentioned how attentive she is. It is so wonderful to watch her grooming her horse and getting the saddle ready. As parents we are so pleased to see her excited over an activity and not feeling left out or left behind. I wanted her to find confidence and control with herself and we are definitely on the right path to those goals. We like what Molly does with the kids and the facilities, at Havendell Farms, are very nice. It is like having our own personal stable and the kids know where to get their grooming supplies, saddles and helmets. It is clean and quite so the kids can enjoy the lessons without any distractions. I see a big difference in her acceptance and results of this therapy over some she has had at the hospital or school. Horses in Education, with Molly, has been great for our whole family.
A boy and his horse. Is there anything more classic? It’s sometimes hard for children of special needs to attach and excel at things that come so easily to other children. Enter MAGIC the trusty steed. Although he belongs To Molly at Horses in Education, Sammy considers him his own, at least for 45min on Tuesday nights. He comes home from his ride so happy and full of accomplishment. Sammy is a very active boy with Downs Syndrome, so active sometimes he’s just a blur! He actually is able to focus and slow down while he is on top of Magic! Yet another things he conquers while riding, fear! That’s one big horse! It is wonderful to see the pride in his eyes and smile when he has finished the course and gets to reward Magic with a juicy carrot or apple. For that moment the focus isn’t on him and what reward he gets but on his horse and the reward he gets to give.
It is Horses In Education’s mission to encourage and enhance the welfare of individuals with special needs through programs of therapeutic and educational value. These programs are carried out to help further empower individuals who are physically, emotionally or socially challenged through the use of equine assisted activities.
No previous experience with horses is needed to engage in Horses In Education programs and we are here to help our students young and old, achieve the highest value from their equine assisted therapy and equine learning lessons. Please check our calendar to see which program suits your needs best.
